Shell is proud to announce its premier sponsorship of the Audi Club North America (ACNA) Teen Driver and Safety Schools for 2008, which will help ACNA accomplish their primary mission of driver education, particularly among teenage drivers.
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens in the U.S., with crash risks highest in the 16 to 19-year-old age group. Teens are more likely than older drivers to speed, underestimate hazardous situations, and have the lowest rate of seat belt use. But, anecdotal findings have indicated that teens that participated in an advanced driving program showed an 80 percent reduction in moving violations and a 90 to 95 percent reduction in crashes. This information makes ACNA’s effort to expand their nationwide teen driving programs through local chapters all the more relevant.
“At Shell we love to drive, which is why we are so passionate about fuel quality, but every day our number one priority is safety,” said Anne Peebles, spokesperson for Shell Oil Products U.S. “Supporting Audi Club of North America in their efforts to educate teens on safety and driving brings these two passions together. We applaud ACNA for their efforts.”
ACNA clinics enable teens to practice emergency maneuvers under conditions that would typically occur only in real emergencies, such as wet or icy conditions, anti-lock braking, and how a car reacts to violent steering input. ACNA teen clinics are open to any teens, not just ACNA members.
Audi Club North America is the largest association of Audi owners in the world, with a membership of approximately 10,000 owners worldwide. Regional chapters encourage members to share their knowledge by hosting rallies, picnics, social gatherings and even technical sessions at Audi dealerships.
